About

You found me! I’m so happy you’re here!

Hi there, I’m Myla! Welcome to my unfiltered, semi-chaotic corner of the internet—a little scrapbook of stories, misadventures, and random slices of life thrown together for fun.

A friend once described me as equal parts cynical and kind, which, annoyingly, is spot-on. If you love a bit of chaos, brutal honesty, sarcasm, and self-proclaimed wit (that may not be as sharp as I think it is), then you’re in the right place.

Professionally, I’m a freshly minted software developer, proudly graduating in October 2024. Before this, I was a teacher, but after spending 12 years as a full-time mom, I felt it was time to leap into a completely new chapter. And by leap, I mean throwing myself headfirst into the deep end of software engineering.

The past two years have been nothing short of a rollercoaster—intense, overwhelming, and, at times, completely exhausting. Balancing family life, full-time studies, and interning at an IT company often felt like juggling flaming swords while blindfolded. But somehow, I managed to come out of it not just in one piece, but with results I’m genuinely proud of. It wasn’t easy, but then again, nothing truly worthwhile ever is.

Now, here I am, ready to tackle this brand-new adventure, fueled by equal parts caffeine and determination. If I can survive that whirlwind, I figure I can handle whatever comes next!

If you’re curious to dive deeper into my professional journey, feel free to check out my LinkedIn profile for a detailed look at my skills, experiences, and what I’ve been up to career-wise. For a more personal take on how I went from teaching to typing code, my career background story will give you the juicy, behind-the-scenes scoop.

About this blog…

I started blogging way back in 2003. Yep, I’m that old. It all began as I was prepping to move to China to teach ESL and avoid adulting. Sound familiar? Thought so.

Back in the day, I had a blog for just about everything I was into—food, fashion, travel, photography, you name it. I hopped around platforms like a true millennial, leaving my mark on LiveJournal, Blogger, and WordPress. But as social media began to dominate, the once-thriving blogging community started to fade.

One by one, my blogging friends traded their personal websites for shiny new platforms, letting their blogs gather digital dust or disappear altogether. Eventually, the fun faded for me too. The spark wasn’t there anymore, so I followed suit, dismantling my blogs one by one.

Now, I find myself missing it, so this is my attempt to rekindle that spark. I’m not blogging with the hope that this will be widely read; I’m blogging simply because I miss it.

So here I am, back to where it all began, tapping away at my keyboard with no grand expectations—just a simple desire to share, reflect, and create. Whether this blog becomes a quiet corner for my thoughts or something more, I’m excited to see where it goes.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for stopping by. Here’s to a new chapter, fueled by nostalgia and a love for the written word. Let’s see where this takes us, shall we?
